Torres' Goalscoring Record
It was interesting to see the media pick up on Fernando Torres being the Quickest Liverpool player to score 50 league goals. He did it in just 72 games. Other famous names near the top of the Liverpool “leaderboard” are: Albert Stubbins 50 in 80, Roger Hunt 50 in 81, John Aldridge 50 in 83, Ian Rush 50 in 84, Robbie Fowler 50 in 88.
Looking through Preston North End players records I came up with the Quickest PNE player to reach 50 league goals was Ted Harper who did it in rapid speed, just 51 games. Wow! Following Ted are Jimmy Ross 50 in 68, Tommy Roberts 50 in 73, Charlie Wayman 50 in 75, Alex Dawson 50 in 79, Percy Smith 50 in 80, and Tommy Thompson 50 in 83.
It would be interesting if other Clubs picked this up and sent in their “quickest to 50” for comparisons.
Two other PNE goalscoring records of note are Nick Ross’s 11 goals in first 5 league games ( “Best scoring start to a PNE league career”) and Tommy Thompson’s 11 consecutive league games scored in (scoring 17 goals on the way)
