• Neil Young PNE

Neil Young, who played for Preston North End between 1972-1974, sadly died on the 3rd February 2011.
    He was aged 66.

  • Neil made his name with Manchester City who he joined from school, in 1959. Along with the likes of Colin Bell, Francis Lee and Mike Summerbee he became a household name in the late 1960's.

  • He enjoyed some monumental moments for the ‘Citizens’, making over 400 appearances and scoring more than 100 goals for the light blues. His own personal highlight must have been scoring the only goal of the 1969 FA Cup final. Neil also won a First Division championship medal, a Second Division championship medal and a European Cup Winners Cup medal too.

Although an England Youth international he never got capped at full level. He joined PNE in January 1972 along with teammate, Dave Connor and went on to play 70 games for Preston, scoring 18 goals. He was transferred to Rochdale in July 1974.

  • Our condolences go out to his family and friends.
